The Neighborhood Guide to Network Marketing
By Ramiro Trevino
If you are like most people in the United States, it is likely that you have, or
will have received an invitation to become part of a network marketing company. You
may have considered joining one because your friends were involved, or because you
were hoping to be able to bring in some extra cash. It can be hard, however, to tell
the difference between network marketing companies that are legitimate, and those
that are scams and should be avoided. The most important thing to remember with this
kind of business is to do your research before diving in.
So what is network marketing exactly? It really is just another name for multi-level
marketing or MLMs. Multi-level marketing is a business distribution model that
allows a parent company to market their products directly to consumers by means of
relationship referrals and direct selling. What this means is that the main company
offers a product for sale and each person in the business has to sell the product on
their own as an independent contractor. If someone just sells the products, a MLM
business can be successful; however, usually the real money comes from recruiting
more people to do the business under you, because a lot of times MLM companies offer
a certain percent commission off of each person under you. There are many legitimate
MLM businesses, but there are certain "pyramid schemes" that are not. The scams
usually try to get people to focus more on getting others to join under them, rather
than trying to sell the products, which are usually of poor quality, if they exist
at all.
Even with all the scams out there, if a legitimate network marketing business is
found, they can be great home businesses or side businesses. Usually MLM businesses
require very little start-up cash, and there is a lot of flexibility in the business
because each person is an independent contractor. How you operate your personal
"company branch" is entirely up to you. So what is a good place to look for
legitimate multi-level marketing businesses? The Internet is probably the best place
to find and research MLM companies. There you can find information on many different
MLM companies, from the super well know to the lesser know businesses. When
considering a MLM company to join, there is no need to worry about being involved in
a scam if you do proper research first. Some companies have you get your family's
opinion before starting a business to see what they think of the idea. In many cases
your friends and family would be the first people you would sell the products to,
and so getting their ideas is a good procedure.
Once you have chosen your network marketing company to be a part of or even if you
decide not to get involved, the rest is still up to you. Be sure to follow the
instructions that your MLM parent company lays out for you. Dedication and prompt
action are the keys to a successful multi-level marketing business. If you never
talk to anyone about your business, you will never be able to sell any products, and
you will never make any money. Good luck in your business!
