Most people do not have the luxury of quitting their job in order to devote all of their time to a new online business.  Because of this, the entire process can seem a little overwhelming and can take a lot of time.  If you are going to keep your job, while trying to build a business, there are some simple ways to achieve maximum success in the shortest amount of time.  Here are some quick tips to help you achieve your goal in record time.

1.Get Rid of the Extras

A common problem that people have is that they have problems focusing on what elements are essential to getting their new online business  up and running.  This is normally because they including unnecessary items on their to-do list.  Once you decide what type of online business you are planning on running, you need to take some time and decide what is essential to getting started and what can be put off for a while.  For example, a website is probably going to be essential to an online business because it will act as a central hub and main way that people will learn about your business.  On the other hand, creating 10 landing pages might be a less important use of your time.  If you need a landing page, start with one and add more as you get the time.  This is where prioritizing becomes an intricate part of your business strategy.

2.Do One Thing at a Time

Multi-tasking seems like a great idea because you can accomplish several goals simultaneously.  However, there have been several studies which have reported that even people who “feel” like they are effective multi-taskers are often more productive when they focus on one thing at a time.  The reason for this is because while you multitask, there are “transition times” between each task in which nothing in being accomplished.  Over the period of a day, week, or month, this transition time can add up to hours or days of wasted time.

3.Outsourcing and Automation

One thing that many people have difficulty with, especially when just starting their online business, is giving up some control to other people or to other things.  Unfortunately, starting a business requires a substantial investment of time, which most people don’t have if they are working a full-time job elsewhere.  This means that by giving up some control and outsourcing or automating portions of the creation or promotion process can speed up the entire process dramatically.  This could mean hiring a writer to create your content, using an auto responder service to help with promotion, or even hiring a virtual assistant to help oversee the day to day operations.

Starting an online business while still holding down a regular full time job is a difficult task, however it is one that many people accomplish on a regular basis.  In order to make sure that you get your operation up, running, and bringing in income as quickly as possible, there are several things that need to be done.  First, you need to make sure that you are prioritizing tasks and taking care of mission critical tasks immediately.  Second, you need to make sure that you remain focused on one thing at a time in order to get the entire project done as efficiently as possible.  Finally, you need to take advantage of outsourcing and/or automation whenever possible to give your new online business the momentum it needs to get off the ground.  While this may be difficult from a financial standpoint, at least during the start-up phase, it is money that will bring in returns in the long run.

There are a lot of distractions that can make working at home a less than productive environment.  There are kids, phone call, television, and a variety of other distractions to contend with.  It doesn’t matter if your home business is selling products directly to customers or working online, these distractions can really hurt your overall productivity.  Additionally, since you are working from home, it is easy to forget about things like spending time with the family, having a social life, and everything else that you enjoy.

Fortunately, there are some simple ways that you make working from home easier so that you have all of the free time you need.

The first thing that you can do to making working from home easier is setting up boundaries and communicating those boundaries to your family and friends.  You need to make sure that they know what your office is, regardless if it is in a separate room or just a corner desk in the living room.  When creating these boundaries, it is important to make sure that they are in line with your priorities.

For example, if you want to spend the weekend with your kids, let them know that you shouldn’t be disturbed while you are in your office because you want to spend time with them later.  You should also communicate with anyone in your household about special considerations.  For example, if you are having a meeting with a client in your home, your family needs to understand the ground rules for that type of situation.

It is also important to make sure that you are comfortable with your office area, wherever it may be.  If you aren’t then you will likely find yourself spreading your work all around the house.

One way to make your office a better place to be is minimize the amount of space taken up by unnecessary things.  For example, a huge filing cabinet used to be essential.  Now, your office can be almost completely paperless by using your computer correctly.  If your chair isn’t comfortable, get a better one, because you will spending a lot of time in it.  Your office space should be an ally not an adversary.

Another simple way to make working from home easier to leverage available technologies.  For example, using a smart phone is a great way to spend some time away from your office, yet still be able to stay in contact with your daily work related tasks, such having email access.  If your home business has you on the go, running around town to see clients, using tools on your smartphone such as Google Aps will ensure that you always have access to business critical data such as your email, a daily calendar, important contacts, and even important documents.  Other technologies like Skype or even a GPS system for your vehicle can make your business run more smoothly.  If you aren’t sure what could help, then ask colleagues what they use to get an idea of what is available.

There are a lot of ways that you can make working from home easier.  Doing things like setting up clear boundaries in regards to space and time, as well as communicating those boundaries to others is a great first step.  Additionally, making sure that your office is comfortable for you and leveraging current technologies can be a big advantage as well.

If you feel like your home office, business structure, schedule, or even your entire home business is out of control, then you are going to get stressed.  One of the best ways to avoid this is by ensuring that your business has a set order and that everything is organized effectively.  However, it is important to recognize that there is also a risk of over-organization to keep in mind as well.  Business will always be as unpredictable as ever, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t create an environment that can absorb the inherent chaos of running your own home business.

The first thing that you need to know is what organization and order actually is.  Organization does not mean having a clean desktop or having a small little box for everything to be placed into.  Organization means that you can find anything that you need, when you need.  If it takes you more than a few minutes to find something, then you might want to organize a little better.  Some people thrive on chaos and if walked into their office, it would look totally disorganized, but they could find anything that you asked for within seconds.  If they can do that, then it is organized to fit their needs.  The purpose of organization is to create a system or process of arranging your life and your work.  This will ensure that you can get all of the important things done.

The second thing think that you need to understand is that good enough really is good enough.  A problem that a lot people run into is getting caught up in what “should” be done.  For example, a lot of people think everything should have a label on it so that you can see what everything is and where it goes.  In reality, most people simply don’t need to do this.  You may want a few labels in areas that you will benefit from having them, but that doesn’t mean that they should be everywhere.  If you think that it is organized enough for you, then it is.

The final thing you need to understand is that organization and order should not be a detriment  There are a variety of ways that organization can become a detriment to you and your home business.  Obviously, the first detriment is a lack of order.  If you wasting 5 minutes searching for something, that is 5 minutes you won’t get back.  When you start wasting 5 minutes 12 times a day, you are wasting a full hour being unproductive.  On the other hand, some people organized to a fault.  These are people that are so concerned about being organized that it detracts from their actual tasks.  Being too concerned with organization will cause people to waste a lot time fine-tune a system that already works.  Remember, good enough is good enough.

Organization seems like a pretty straight forward concept that serves a fairly basic function.  However, some people take it too far, which ends up stifling their work, while others ignore it completely which causes them to waste an hour or more a day, just looking for stuff.  To understand the function of order and organization within your home business, there are some basic concepts that are important to note.  The first is that organization is simply a process which ensures that you can always find what you need, when you need it, thus saving time and frustration.  Second, when it comes to organization, good enough really is good enough.  Finally, if the way you organization makes you feel stifled, then you are probably over-organizing.  By understanding these 3 core concepts, organization and order can play a critical role in the overall functioning of your home business.
